Don't miss your chance to participate in one of NALIP's signature programs - the Latino Producers Academy. Taking place in August 2008 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the LPA includes hands-on practicum for Producers at all stages of their professional development.
Documentaries in post-production will have opportunities to re-cut and score sequences with intensive mentoring on their rough cuts and completion plans. Feature projects with directors will work with crews and casts to rehearse, shoot, cut and score scenes from their upcoming production.
This program is open exclusively to NALIP members and/or New Mexico residents, and only to filmmakers with produced work on which they played a key creative role. All Accepted Fellows are invited on full scholarship.

In a world where truth is stranger than fiction, we can help you tell the stories that must be told. Each year, the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program awards up to $1.5 million in grants to support documentary films focused on contemporary social issues. Films supported have included My Country, My Country; Why We Fight; Born Into Brothels; Iraq in Fragments; The Inner Tour; The Devil Came on Horseback; and Everything's Cool. If you believe that creative non-fiction filmmaking is vital to society, and you are an artist with passion for the work of storytelling, we want to hear about your project. Tell us what you see.

Attention Latino Artists and Arts Leaders:
Don’t miss the opportunity to apply for the 2008 NALAC Leadership Institute, which takes place in San Antonio, Texas, from July 14-19, 2008. The NALAC Leadership Institute is the premier professional development program for the Latino arts field, providing invaluable administrative skills and leadership training to the next generation of Latino arts leaders. The extended deadline to apply for this year’s Leadership Institute is Wednesday, May 21st.
Now in its 8th year, the NALAC Leadership Institute brings emerging Latino artists and key staff of community based Latino arts and cultural organizations from across the nation for intensive training in nonprofit arts management and leadership development. Fifteen to twenty applicants are selected to attend each year, and up to two people from an organization can apply!
The NALAC Leadership Institute has created a powerful national network of Latino arts leaders, whose creative intellect is shaping the future of Latino arts and culture.
The NALAC Leadership Institute training includes instruction in such areas as:
• Fundraising and Grant Writing
• Capacity Building
• Audience Development
• Outreach & Publicity
• New Technologies
• Trends in Philanthropy

Palm Springs International ShortFest, Aug. 21-27, 2008
Now in its 14th year, the Palm Springs ShortFest has become known world-wide for the community of filmmakers it attracts, and for the quality and scope of its programming. The largest festival of its kind in America, with over 350 short films from more than 40 countries, with a library of more than 2200 films available to film buyers, industry and press in the Film Market running concurrently with the Festival. Included are seminars, technological demonstrations and scheduled 'one-on-one' meetings with industry experts and filmmaking professionals, free to filmmakers who participate. All films submitted are included in the Film Market. Festival includes twenty awards in 6 categories, with cash orfilm production prizes ($100,000 worth of prizes, in all).

Mission
The mission of East Los Angeles Repertory Theatre Company (East LA Rep) is to establish East Los Angeles as the epicenter of Latino Theatre in the US.
We accomplish this with the staging of work by playwrights of Latino heritage, a repertory company of actors, the Youth Rep program, productions devised through the Community Series, collaborations, commissions, and the touring presentation of the classics by way of Free Shakespeare at East LA Parks.
 Women, Words & Wisdom Blog Tour to Celebrate Latino Book Month
Starting May 19th and running till May 28th, ten Latina authors will post original short stories and inspiring essays as part of the Women, Words & Wisdom blog tour to celebrate Latino Book Month.
Every day during the tour, readers will travel to an author's blog where they are treated to a story and a contest for a prize. This is the fourth tour that the group has done and each one attracts readers and new fans.
"We believe in supporting each other and our books," said Mary Castillo, coordinator of the tour. "We also hope that the blog tour will inspire a new writer out there to sit down and write that book that has been rattling around in her head." Artist Nuvia Crisol Guerra contributed the artwork for the tour logo.
