 ITVS Funding Announcement
Attention filmmakers! Looking for funding for your next project? INDEPENDENT TELEVISION SERVICE (ITVS) seeks proposals for public TV programs which take creative risks, serve underrepresented audiences and express points of view seldom seen on commercial or public TV.
OPEN CALL provides completion funding for single non-fiction programs (not series) that are already in production. It is our largest funding initiative with two funding rounds per year. There is no minimum or maximum funding amount, though ITVS funds should be the last money in to the project. Please note that the deadlines have changed, and the deadline for Open Call 2008 Round 2 is JULY 18, 2008.
Please note that as of 2008, Open Call no longer accepts submissions for Drama/Narrative projects. ITVS is currently revising its policies regarding submissions in these genres. We will publicize this new policy in the coming months once it has taken effect.

 Deadline Extended: Long Island Latino International Film Festival
The Long Island Latino International Film Festival is inviting filmmakers to submit films by or about Latinos for the opportunity to be screened. Now in our 4th year we will offer a new assembly of selected Latino films showcasing the works of up incoming and established filmmakers. We consider all forms: feature narrative, short films, documentary, animation and experimental shorts.

Scriptwriters Network is proud to host a panel discussion featuring writers of one-hour TV scripts. The event is June 14th, doors open at 1PM. The panel includes:
Dawn DeKeyser: SWN aluma and writer-producer on "Samantha Who". Dawn's also written for many other shows including "Ugly Betty," "Becker," "News Radio," "The Geena Davis Show" and "Conrad Bloom." She has written and developed pilots for NBC, ABC and DreamWorks, been published in literary magazines for her personal essays, and won the Carl Sautter Scriptwriters Network competition, which she attributes to helping her land her first staff job in television.
Jane Espenson: Writer-producer on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Battlestar Galactica."
Melody Fox: SWN alumna and Carl Sautter Competition winner, Melody is currently a writer on "Flash Gordon" for the SciFi Network. Melody Fox began in animation where she wrote for series such as "Rugrats," "Freakazoid" and "Teen Titans". Plus, she created the Stuart Little TV series for HBO-Family, based on the movie. She expanded into one-hour episodic landing staff jobs on UPN's "South Beach," and Jerry Bruckheimer's sexy drama "Skin" for Fox.
Amy Berg: Amy Berg started her career writing Nickelodeon live-action comedies before segueing to one-hour dramas. She's since written prime-time soaps (Fox's North Shore), science fiction shows (Threshold and The 4400), and crime dramas (the upcoming Leverage for TNT).

 Sissy Play Opening at Alexandria Hotel
Company of Angels proudly presents the World Premiere of Ricardo Bracho’s “Sissy” at the historic Alexandria Hotel, opening June 13 through July 6, 2008. Directed by Company of Angels Artistic Director, Armando Molina, with the Associate Direction of Tina Sanchez.
In “Sissy” The time is July 19, 1975. Disco 45's revolve, the Sandinistas have gained power in Nicaragua, and in Culver City a young precocious youth is about to turn twelve. The dramas of sibling rivalry, teen pregnancy and progressive politics play as Sissy blows his candles out.
Playwright Ricardo Bracho was born in Mexico City and raised in Culver City. He is an award-winning playwright, a published essayist and a noted speaker and educator. Sissy is the recipient of an Asuncion Finalists Award from Pregones Theater, a Panelist's Choice Award from the Edward Albee Theater Festival, the UC Santa Barbara Latino Playwriting Award from the Center for Chicano Studies and the George Houston Bass Award from Brown University. His other plays include The Sweetest Hangover, A to B, Querido and Puto.
“Sissy” is under the skillful direction of COA Artistic Director,Armando Molina. His recent directing credits include “Road to Arivaca” by Evangeline Ordaz, “Anna In The Tropics” by Nilo Cruz at PCPA Theaterfest in Santa Maria California; “Conjunto” by Oliver Mayer at Borderlands Theater Company in Tucson Arizona; “Living Out” By Lisa Loomer at TheatreWorks in Palo Alto, California, and at Mixed Blood Theatre in Minneapolis; and “The Waiting Room” by Lisa Loomer at Company of Angels in Los Angeles. Armando recently received national recognition from the NEA and the Theater Communications Group as a recipient of their Career Development Program for Directors.
In the past year, Company of Angels, Los Angeles’s oldest non-profit theater company, has re-invented itself as a company dedicated to revitalizing and celebrating the full potential of Los Angeles-based theater--through deep connections to L.A. artists and communities. Upcoming season includes “A Visitor’s Guide to Arivaca” by Evangeline Ordaz and “Lost” by Bernado Solano.
