 Call for Applications: 2009 Disney•ABC TV and Feature Writing Fellowship Program
The Disney•ABC Television Group and The Walt Disney Studios are now accepting applicaitons for the 2009 Writing Fellowship Program.
Deadline for Submissions to the industry-leading program is August 8, 2008.
Begun in 1990 in partnership with the Writers Guild of America, west, this has become one of the industry’s best known and most respected writing fellowships. More than 200 alumni number among Hollywood’s elite, including screenwriters, directors and television showrunners. A limited number of full-time fellowships are available each year for both feature film and television projects.
Fellows receive a weekly salary for a one-year period, subject to change, but (currently amounting to $50,000/year plus benefits). The program is an intensive, hands-on experience that involves workshops, seminars and mentorships with creative executives from ABC, ABC Television Studio, Disney Channel, ABC Family, Lifetime and Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group.
No previous professional experience is necessary, but strong samples are required.

 Call for Submissions: Film Independent Producers Lab & Sloan Grant
Film Independent is currently accepting submissions for its 2008 Producers Lab, as well as for the SLoan Producers Grant.
Designed to help filmmakers develop skills as creative independent producers, the Producers Lab is an intensive seven-week program running two evenings a week in Los Angeles each fall. During the Lab, Fellows develop a strategy and action plan for bringing their projects to fruition, including a detailed budget, schedule, and business plan.
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation will award one participant of Film Independent's Producers Lab the second annual Sloan Producers Grant. The recipient will receive a $25,000 development grant, admission to Film Independent's 2008 Producers Lab, and year-round support from Film Independent.

 NCLR Conference Exhibits Honor Latino & Latina Veterans (San Diego)
Join thousands more at the National Council of La Raza 40th Annual Conference July 12-15, 2008 San Diego Convention Center, San Diego California.
The public is invited to visit one of the largest and most important national exhibits ever displayed on Latino and Latina military service in defense of our country: The Latino Expo exhibits are truly enlightening and memorial. The Latino Expo is free to the public.
Veteran Exhibits include:
1. Book and project information display "A Legacy Greater Than Words." A book by Dr. Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez, Professor at The University of Texas at Austin and founder of the U.S. Latino and Latina WWII Oral History Project. Over 500 recorded interviews and photos of Latino and Latina WWII veterans are published in the book.
2. Defend The Honor display: "Insisting On Our Rightful Place In History." A display on the Defend The Honor Campaign and public demand calling on Ken Burns and PBS to include the Latino and Latina World War II experience in their 15 hour WWII public and privately funded "documentary."
3. " Corrido: Los Soldados Olivados De La Segunda Guerra Mundial" - "Ode to our forgotten Soldiers of WWII" music CD in honor of Latino and Latina WWII warriors and Ken Burns/PBS omission of our contributions and sacrifice will be on display. The CD was written and recorded by Dr. Jose "Pepe" Villarino.
Rick Leal, President of the Hispanic Medal of Honor Society, presents the Legacy of Valor exhibit depicting a photo mural display presented in 4-segments:
1. First display is of the 41 HISPANIC MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS from the Civil War to Vietnam War.
2. Second display is entitled: " RETURN WITH HONOR "the Story of Commander Everett Alvarez, Jr. the First American Pilot shot down over North Vietnam was captured and survived and spent 8 years 7mos. as POW.
3. Third display is entitled: 'JUSTICE FOR MY PEOPLE" the Story of true legend 'Dr. Hector P. Garcia first civil rights activist, founder of the American G.I. Forum and in 1994 President Ronald Reagan presented Dr. Garcia at White House Ceremony the highest civilian award the "PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM".
4. Fourth display: Are six separate photo murals of Navy ships named after Hispanic Medal of Honor winners...the;
USS: GARCIA, USNS: BENAVIDEZ, USS: VALDEZ, USNS:MARTINEZ, USNS:VALDEZ, USS:GONZALES
5. A special showing of the critically acclaimed documentary "The Forgotten Eagles" honoring the WWII veterans of the 201st Mexican Fighter Squadron will be shown at the conference by the Office of the Mexican Consulate in San Diego. The documentary was produced by Victor H. Mancilla and has been shown at Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C.

 Call for Entries: Tiburon International Film Festival
The 8th Annual Tiburon International Film Festival (TIFF) will be held March 19-27, 2009 in Tiburon, California, a showcase for the independent films and filmmakers from around the world.
"A true United Nations of cinema, showcasing films from around the entire world" VIA Magazine
Submissions are open to all genres of film: Fiction, documentary, short, animation, experimental, student, children, sports, music video.....from any nation in the world.
TIFF screened more than 200 films from 92 countries in March of 2008 from over 3000 entries.
The festival has honored many great filmmakers like: Orson Welles, Sam Pekinpah, Luchino Visconti, Blake Edwards, Santiago Alvarez, John Frankenheimer, George Stevens, Malcolm McDowell, Saul Zaentz, Brad Bird, Paul Mazursky, Mark Rydell, Bob Rafelson.....
The Tiburon International Film Festival is proud to be a platform for the independent filmmakers from around the world, with premieres like Academy Award winner "West Bank Story" by Ari Sandel, and Academy Award nominee "Salim Baba" by Timothy Sternberg .... and many films, which have been picked up for distribution .... and or invited to other festivals after premiering at TIFF.
Golden Reel Award
The films submitted to the Tiburon International Film Festival are eligible to win the "Golden Reel Award" in several categories: Best Fiction, Best Documentary, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Short, Best Animation, Best Children Film, Best Student Film, Best Music Video, Best Sport Film .....and the winners of all categories will be announced during a formal ceremony at the end of the Festival.

The Instant Access Generation and the Future of Entertainment: What Teens are Watching and Why
The event will cover a range of issues that teens face in their daily lives and why media both television and new media is an integral part of their lives. Panelists include: Kathleen McGhee-Anderson, Executive Producer, Lincoln Heights; Anastasia Goodstein, publisher of YPulse.com, a Forbes magazine best of the blog and author of Totally Wired: What Teens and Tweens Are Really Doing Online; Steven Tsapales, writer and co-creator of the popular web series, We Need Girlfriends (currently being developed into a pilot for CBS) and Tyler Spiers and Mike Rose, Creators of the animated series and internet sensation, Planet Unicorn, 2007 top 20 funniest videos by New York Magazine.The panel will also include two teens: Ausar Mundy (on break from the Kanye West Glow in The Dark Tour) and Lee Bette a recent graduate of USC. They will share their views about the teens they see on TV and their media consumption. Presented in association with The Media Project.
